# General Folders > General Folders is an identity- and policy-aware transport layer for B2B data, replacing hacky SFTP, email, and ad-hoc pipelines. General Folders is a business-to-business data transfer product. Each transfer is a durable exchange object: define an exchange, connect the source and destination endpoints you own, set a cadence, and run it. Credentials are held as secret references and transfers execute in isolated workers. Every run records counts, checksums, retries, and failure detail behind a permission-scoped audit trail. The product is API-first and can be embedded in another product. ## Pages - [Product](https://generalfolders.com/product/): How General Folders works, with the dashboard, execution model, run evidence, and API. - [Company](https://generalfolders.com/company/): Who is building General Folders and who backs it. - [Resources](https://generalfolders.com/resources/): Writing and announcements. - [Privacy policy](https://generalfolders.com/privacy-policy/): How data is handled. - [Terms of service](https://generalfolders.com/terms-of-service/): Terms for using the site and product. ## Writing - [The state of data exchange](https://generalfolders.com/blog/the-state-of-data-exchange/): Data exchange is integral to every business partnership. Yet data exchange practices are highly manual, prone to data leaks, difficult to validate, inherently impossible to monitor, and costly to audit. In this talk, we present an overview of the variety of methods enterprises use to share and transfer data.
